The rainbow flag
A symbol of the pride movement
The rainbow flag is an international symbol of the pride movement and reflects both the great diversity and the unity of the LGBTQI community.
The original rainbow flag was designed by the queer artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 and was flown for the first time at San Francisco Gay Freedom Day parade on 25 June that year.
Gilbert Baker never copyrighted the rainbow flag as he wanted it to be owned by everyone.
Gilbert Baker died in 2017.
